Year 6 Evacuee Day - A Wartime Adventure

On Tuesday, Year 6 stepped back into the 1940s for an action-packed Evacuee Day! The morning began with WW2 songs as the children walked into class wearing  fabulous costumes before they created atmospheric skyline paintings of London during the Blitz, and explored what life was really like for evacuees through their history lesson.

In the hall, they watched their documentaries, which they filmed during their Imperial War Museum trip and later watched famous Evacuee film scenes from Narnia, Goodnight Mr Tom, and more, before returning to class to make their own book-inspired wartime collages—complete with identity tags!

The afternoon saw impressive engineering as pupils built their own Anderson shelters, tested their strength, and finished their striking silhouette artwork, all to the soundtrack of wartime classics. A few surprise air-raid sirens added to the immersive experience!

It was a fantastic day full of learning, creativity, and imagination—well done, Year 6!
