At Thames Ditton Junior School, writing is a fundamental part of our curriculum offer and features in all subjects. We teach writing through our English lessons, both as a specific strand and when used as part of book-based units. Pupils are introduced to a wide range of fiction and non-fiction text types and the features that are integral to each genre. Alongside this, our teachers model examples of writing and explain how to construct a piece. We also show WAGOLLs (‘What A Good One Looks Like) to inspire and motivate pupils’ confidence, creativity and ability. The teaching of writing closely connects with EGPS (English, Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling) with both necessary for a pupil to progress and succeed.
