All children have class music lessons following a scheme which gives opportunities for singing, playing on pitched and un-pitched instruments, listening, improvising, composing and performing. Music lessons are designed to give children a variety of experiences, and cover a range of musical styles. We are lucky to have a designated music lodge which is well equipped with a range of instruments, and which allows children to explore music creatively in whole classes or smaller groups. Children are encouraged to develop their skills as practical musicians, so that everyone is participating. Children in years 3 and 4 are given the opportunity to develop their instrumental skills using glockenspiels. In year 5 and 6 children develop these skills further using keyboards.
All children are involved in singing assemblies and practice singing for the Christmas performances and church service.
We have close links with Hinchley Wood School, through whom we have participated in a variety of activities. This has included workshops for Music Technology, Singing, Music and Maths, and Music and Science.
Outside curriculum time, there are opportunities to join the choir and school band. The choir has regularly been involved in the annual Elmbridge Choirs' Festival with other local schools. They also sing carols at Linwood Care Home and take part in Voice in a Million.
Many children also have instrumental lessons in school and we aim to ensure that children are given the chance to perform to different audiences. Instrumentalists and singers are given the opportunity to perform in assemblies and concerts at different points in the year.
