At Thames Ditton Junior School, we embed EGPS (English, Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling) within our English curriculum and our pupils implement their learning across the curriculum. Whether taught alongside a genre of writing, reading activity or through specific teaching, all pupils are introduced to their year-group specific list of grammatical devices, punctuation and spelling words through the academic year. Teachers model the use of these when working with pupils and consistently set an EGPS focus as success criteria in writing tasks. It is important that our teaching introduces pupils to the name of the device or technique as well as how it is used and the impact that it has on the writing and its reader.
