Drama at TDJS
We aim to develop the expression of feelings, thoughts and ideas by ordering sounds, images and movements into forms, which symbolise and interpret the children's personal experiences and their understanding and perception of the wider world.
Excellence is encouraged in drama at our school through - whole-school involvement in the Christmas shows, Year group drama days , talent shows, class assemblies and end of year leavers’ shows.
Additionally, in 2017-2018, we hosted auditions and rehearsals for the production of ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’ which culminated in three ticketed shows in the Summer term.
Year 3 and 4 pupils have a weekly drama session taught by our specialist drama teacher. The responsibility for the planning of our drama curriculum lies with Mrs Conyers and, as our Head of Drama, she is able to support other teaching colleagues in this subject when needed. In Year 5 and 6, drama is taught through our English curriculum. Our English curriculum strives to be creative, varied and enjoyable through the careful planning and exploration of different drama techniques (e.g. hot seating, freeze-framing and role on the wall) across a variety of genres. Across school life, we aim to provide opportunities which require pupils to use their developed drama skills which in turn encourages them to develop resilience and become confident performers and speakers in later life.
